May 5: A new International Fisting Day
On April 24, 2025, Fist Club Europe e.V. announced an exciting initiative in collaboration with Fistwerk: May 5 will now be celebrated as International Fisting Day. This day is intended to create visibility, education and acceptance for an often misunderstood sexual practice - especially in the gay community, but also beyond.
A day for intimacy, trust and education
Fisting is more than just a sexual technique - it is an expression of intimacy, trust and freedom," emphasizes Balian Richter, press spokesperson for Fist Club Europe. The Berlin-based association wants to use this day to celebrate physical self-determination and sexual diversity. At the same time, the aim is to dispel myths surrounding fisting and promote a fact-based, health-conscious discourse.
Fisting requires a high degree of communication, consensus and trust. The 5th of May is therefore not only intended to make the practice visible, but also to provide sound knowledge about safe techniques, hygiene and consensuality. "We want to create a reliable platform for education and prevention," says Richter.
Why May 5?
The choice of date is symbolic: the number 5 stands for the five fingers of the hand - the central element of fisting. The date 05.05. is concise, easy to remember and ideal for symbolizing this form of sexual intimacy worldwide. It reflects a practice that is often practiced in private, but plays an important role in many queer realities.
Demarcation from October 21
In contrast to the existing "International Fisting Day" on October 21, which was launched in the USA in 2011 and focuses on censorship and representation in pornography, May 5 focuses on the lived practice within the global community. "Our goal is not to compete, but to complement," explains Richter. "We are creating a day that emerges from the center of the community - visible, open and respectful."
A call for clarification
Fist Club Europe invites media, sexual health organizations and the community to use May 5th as an opportunity to spread knowledge about fisting. The club plans to accompany the day in the future with campaigns and information offers to bring the topics of safety, consent and health to the fore worldwide.
