The annual boom in sex work

Over 300 bookings in the first few days, up to CHF 10,000 per night, NDAs obligatory. Preaching equality by day, celebrating orgies and fetishes by night.

Every year, when the World Economic Forum (WEF) takes place in Davos, the tranquil Swiss mountain town is transformed not only into a forum for global politics and business - but also into an epicenter of venal pleasure. Prostitution is legal, regulated and taxable in Switzerland. But during the WEF, the demand for escorts and sex workers explodes to a level that far outstrips the rest of the year.

The classic WEF effect: fully booked in record time

For years, escort agencies such as Intimcity (a kind of "Tinder for paid dates") have reported that all local providers are fully booked during the WEF week. In recent years, the platform has regularly reported over 300 bookings in the first few days alone - many times more than in normal weeks. The elite - CEOs, politicians, investors - travel without partners, seek discretion and are prepared to pay premium prices.

Typical figures from the last events (as of 2023-2025):

- Average booking duration: 4 hours per appointment

- Hourly rate: often CHF 1,000-2,500 (sometimes significantly higher)

- Total sales via one platform only in the first few days: approx. 300,000 CHF (≈ 315,000 €)

- Estimate for the entire escort market during the week: up to CHF 1 million or even several million dollars (older ILO estimates speak of up to USD 10 million)

Comparison with a normal January in Davos: the town otherwise lives from winter tourism - moderate bookings, mainly local or normal tourists. The WEF is an extreme peak: what normally takes months is realized here in 5-6 days. Many escorts travel extra, some even internationally, because the prices explode and the clientele is solvent.

Trends that are here to stay: NDAs, sex parties & trans demand

In recent years (especially 2025), the demand for:

- Sex parties & orgies (individual customers book several women at the same time)

- NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements) - almost standard for high-level clients

- Trans women and special fetishes (anal, BDSM etc.)

The irony remains: During the day, gender equality, sustainability and social responsibility are discussed - at night, the money flows into an industry that often offers vulnerable people high but risky incomes.

Conclusion: A recurring spectacle

The phenomenon is no longer a secret - it has been reported for over a decade. And it is reliably repeated: as soon as the limousines and private jets land in Davos, the whores are in demand. For some it is pure hypocrisy, for others simply business as usual in the world of the super-rich.
